2nd Annual HopeKids Event
The 2nd annual HopeKids event will take place on June 21st from 11:00 to 3:00. This event provides an opportunity for children and their families to restore hope and transform their lives through boating.
HopeKids mission and program is very unique. They focus on kids with life-threatening medical conditions. HopeKids offers an ongoing program of highly-anticipated events and activities in which all the children and their families are invited to participate. These events help restore fun, excitement, and hope in what can be a difficult time in their life.
The power squadron is hosting one of these special events. There will be approximately 25 children and their families participating in the event. The event will start with a boat ride from Wayzata bay to the island. At the island, the families will have an opportunity to engage in activities, including fishing from the dock, face painting, a scavenger hunt, fish pond, picture frames, and other childrens games. The event will also include a BBQ with a wide variety of food. The day will end with a boat ride back to Wayzata Bay.
Volunteers and boats are needed to run this event. Please register on-line if you are interested in helping with island activities or offering up your boat to shuttle families to and from the island. Boats will depart the Wayzata dock at 11:00 and be back at 3:00. Thank you in advance for ensuring the 2nd annual HopeKids event will be a success.

The Seamanship course will begin Monday, April 29, 2013 at 7:00 PM at Peace Presbyterian Church on Cedar Lake Road if there is enough interest to justify presenting the course. Seamanship is required within 2 years of joining the Minnetonka Power Squadron in order to obtain an Island Use Sticker.
To quote the USPS website, “Building on the basics of recreational boating presented at the public boating courses, Seamanship adds foundational information for continuing boater education. …… Emphasis within the course has been placed on higher level boating skills, rules of the road and marlinspike.”
The course would run for 7 Monday evenings beginning 4/29 with a closed book exam at the end. Please contact Don Duncan at either 952-925-0157 or don61233@aol.com if you plan to attend the course or have any questions. I need to know the number of potential attendees in order to obtain supplies.
