Practical On The Water Training Dates Announced – 19 May and 17 June

Practical On The Water Training for boaters:

This is an eight hour seminar with the perfect combination of classroom training and hands-on On-The-Water training. It provides an explanation of how your boat handles and why. Video clips let you visualize the maneuvers prior to your experiencing them on the water. It covers use of lines, departing the dock, operating in a fairway, pivoting, mooring, backing, docking, steering – slalom, holding course – range, and a quick stop.

Each student receives a copy of Powerboat Handling Illustrated, a DVD, a Student Manual, and a certificate acknowledging his/her training.

Class 1 Sunday May 19 10:00am-5:30pm Lake Minnetonka Area (TBD)

Class 2 Monday and Wednesday, June 17 and 19 Monday 6:30-9:00pm and Wednesday 5:30-9:00pm Lake Minnetonka Area (TBD)

The Minnetonka Power Squadron will hold two open-to-the-public sessions of the United States Power Squadrons ABC Safe Boating Course.  The dates are:
March 18 – April 15, 2013
·         5 Monday nights; 7:00-9:00 p.m.

May 7 – June 4, 2013
·         5 Tuesday nights; 7:00-9:00 p.m.

On-the-Water Training – A New and Unique Program
Developed under a grant from the U. S. Coast Guard, our Practical On-the-Water Training breaks new ground by providing high quality, affordable training for those who want to develop or improve their boat handling skills.

Program Benefits
Whether you are brand new to boating, or have previous boating experience, this training can provide a number of benefits:

• Learn the right techniques from the start!
• Improve your current boating skills!
• Learn proper safety techniques!
• Develop your confidence at the helm!
• Get more out of your boating investment!
• Have more fun!

The Training
This program is an 8-hour seminar, it will include 4 hours of classroom training and 4 hours of training and practice behind the wheel of a boat. We recommend that you first complete a boating safety class, but previous on-the-water experience is not required. The cost of this class is $199. The price of the course covers the cost of materials, operations, and facilities. Instruction is provided free as a public service.  Students may take classes at any participating location.  The boats and training facilities are provided through our local member squadrons.  Boats are all well-maintained and have passed safety inspection.

The Minnetonka Power Squadron will hold two public boating course sessions in 2012.  These are five-week sessions that begin at 7 PM and are held at Peace Church in St. Louis Park, MN.  Materials are priced at $57.50 and may be purchased on our website by clicking HERE!.  Questions about the classes may be directed to the Squadron’s Education Officer:  education@minnetonkaps.org.
