SAFETY DAY on streater cove
Saturday, June 26, 2010

• 1000-1400 Vessel Safety Checks will be conducted (sign up in pavilion)

• 1200-1300 BOC Water Demonstration; USPS Boat Operator Certification Instructor Art Mollica (St Paul Power Squadron) will demonstrate the on-the-water skills; necessary for the new USPS Boat Operators Certification (BOC) program.

• 1300-1430 Personal Water Safety Presentation (Children may participate with parents); Power Squadron member John Raby will demonstrate and discuss: reasons people drown; PFD’s ; water rescue techniques; in-water spinal injury management; dangers of cold water

• 1430-1530 Long Lake Fire Department; The Long Lake Fire Department will have their fire boat available for viewing. They will also: guide a hands-on fire extinguisher demo & practice session; discuss fire safety as it relates to boats; discuss local Fire Area response

• 1530-1630 Hennepin County Water Patrol; In addition to having their patrol boats available for viewing, the Water Patrol will discuss MN Boating regulations; general boating safety; rules as they pertain to Lake Minnetonka & answer any questions you may have.

• 1430-1630 Scavenger hunt, poster contest & games for kids; Youth ages 6-14 create a poster related to the 2010 USPS theme of “Water Smarts—Boat Safe & Clean”. We’ll also be doing a scavenger hunt on the island. Other games include Jeopardy, relay races & more. Wear your swimsuits! Prizes are involved!
